Accessible Homes

It may seem obvious, but the best way to provide accessibility in a home is to eliminate all steps: those necessary to reach another level, those that create a barrier to entry, and those introduced for dramatic effect within the home. Even a step up into a tub or shower can create a hazard, especially on slick tile surfaces. Solutions such as elevators or other motorized lifts are expensive and one story homes cost more to build than two stories. Builders often elect to use conventional practices that include steps at doors since even that small detail can add to the cost.
